Interview with Sandeep Singh: The rising star of Indian Hockey Team

He is considered one of the most dangerous flickers of the world. His drag flick races at the speed of 145 Kmph and it is this forte that makes him an asset to the Indian team. Sandeep Singh features as a full back and is a penalty corner specialist for the team.

He hails from Shahbad Markanda–the Hockey nursery of India–in Haryana and he holds a DSP Rank in Harayana Police. He started his international career in 2004.

On 22 August 2006 Sandeep was seriously injured after being hit by an accidental gunshot aboard Shatabadi train, while on his way to join the national team due to leave for the World Cup in Germany two days later. However, with determination, he recovered and fought his way back into the National team. He was felicitated with Arjuna Award in 2010.

Fresh from his electrifying performance in making sure India qualifies for the London Olympics Games, 2012, we talked to Sandeep over telephone:
