My Village Essay in Tamil

The place of our birth and childhood verily feels like heaven to each one of us. Life is unforgettable during childhood and the memories that out native village or town gave us stands forever in our memories. My village has nurtured my growth and shaped me as a person. I am always thankful to my village and take pride in inheriting the most wonderful tradition of our village. It is my pleasure to pen this essay about my village (engal oor) – Echanoor in the Kancheepuram District of Tamil Nadu.

Echanoor by its name might not be famous on the map, nevertheless, it has produced some remarkable people who has shined in different walks of life. Echanoor is a small village with about 200 houses. Ours is an agricultural community with the majority of the population engaged in agriculture, farming and other allied activities.

Echanoor is surrounded by three lakes on its three sides and in the other side there are small villages and hamlets stretching till the district highway at about a mile’s distance. There are six streets in total in the village. The type of houses in Echanoor range from coconut leaf huts to tiled houses to brick and concrete constructions.

In our village there are quite a few temples dedicated to different village deities like Poovathamman, Durgaiyamman, and Mariyamman. There is a big pond of crystal clear water serving as the temple tank. Adjacent to it is a very old temple dedicated to Lord Ram. Though I might move out to the city in future for my studies and work, I always deem my village as my cradle that can comfort me forever and inspire me with my life’s journey.
