Is Paytm poised to lead the Indian ecommerce industry?

PaytmIndian ecommerce industry is booming. From the top five major players including Snapdeal, Flipkart, Amazon, Jabong and Myntra (I don’t know the exact order here), a lot of category players have emerged in the recent past.

Just count the names: Urbanladder, Pepperfry, Happily Unmarried, Chumbak, Lenskart, Healthkart, Firstcry, Babyoye, Zovi, Printvenue, Foodpanda, etc.

A lot of potential lies in category ecommerce and lots of products and services are still unexplored.

Paytm has innovated a lot in the recent past. From a simple mobile/DTH recharging concept, they started the online wallet that kind of revolutionized the Indian market. Recently, they have ventured into the ecommerce industry which looked like an obviously logical move. The model is again the same as followed by major ecommerce players in India. However, what they are doing is quite interesting.

Things that can set them apart from other players

  1. They are extremely prompt on Twitter. A trait that can help provide one of the best customer service experience
  2. They are prompt in their email and sms updates about whatever is happening with the orders. Of course, a great commitment to make the customer feel that it’s being tracked and taken care of.
  3. They are offering great deals in terms of discounts, making them irresistible.
  4. They seems to have a robust return policy and the team that handles the return requests acts promptly.
  5. They online wallet makes it pretty easy to pay and get refund.

(All features mentioned are personally tested)

This may sound as a sponsored post but it’s not. I have recently purchased a lot of items from Paytm, Amazon and Shopclues.

I would not mind to say that the best shopping experience is provided by Paytm.

However, as the time and customer base move forward, Paytm will have to equip themselves technically more and more and also to make the platform downtime-proof.

I wish them luck!
