National parks and Amusement Parks in Chennai

Snake Park

Chennai boasts of a very interesting snake park located at Sardar Vallabbai Patel Road within the campus of the Guindy National Park. The facility houses more than 40 species of common snakes native to India. Visiting hours are from 0830 to 1730, Wednesday to Monday with holidays on Tuesdays. Some of the most interesting varieties of snakes found here are the dark deadly ‘King Cobra’, ‘Banded’ Krait’, Puff adders’, vipers, pythons and alligators. In addition, the park also has on display crocodiles, chameleons, variety of lizards and tortoises maintained in their natural setting.

Guindy National Park

Guindy national park is one of the proud possessions of Chennai, which has the credit of being the only Wildlife Sanctuary of the country located within the metropolitan city limits. This park was established in 1976 and spans over an area of about 27.6 sq. km. At one end of the park, one can find Raj Bhavan, the Governor’s mansion, with the other end occupied by a beautiful forest – girt campus of Chennai’s most popular Indian Institute of Technology. Guindy National Park houses the snake park and the Children’s park with separate entrances. From this park, the nearest town, rail head and airport is Chennai, reachable at a distance of 5km.

Anna Zoological Park

Deemed as one of the biggest zoological parks in the whole of South Asia, Anna Zoological Park is located on the outskirts of Chennai city at about 32 kilometer. The park sprawls over an area of 1,265 acre (510 hectare). The facility houses one of the richest population of tropical mammals, birds and reptiles amongst several others. The nearest rail-head from the park is Vandalur (1km). The zoological park is open for visitors on six days of the week except Tuesdays, between 11 am and 7 pm. On Sundays and Holidays, visitors can enter the park from 10 am to 8 pm.

Kishkintha

Holding a galaxy of attractions, water sports and gaming items, Kishkintha was the first theme amusement park that was set up near Chennai. The park is located at about 28 Km to the south of Chennai near Tambaram with the facility spread over 110 acres. The park offers some of the most exciting rides and attractions in addition to magic shows and thrillariums. Kishkinta can be reached at about 5 km. from the Tambaram Railway Station / Bus Terminus. The amusement park is open on Weekdays from 10:30 AM to 07:00 PM and can be visited on Sundays & Holidays between 10:30 AM to 08:00 PM.

M G M Dizzy World

M G M Dizzy World is located at about 28 km to the south of Chennai. This is yet another amusement park situated at Muttukkadu on the East Coast Road before reaching Mamallapuram. The facility is open between 10.30 am and 9 pm.

VGP Golden Beach

Located in the ECR Highway, VGP Golden Beach is yet another amusement park suitable for all age groups. The place holds a variety of attractions that will delight people with different interests and tastes and suitable to enjoy a highly entertaining time at the beachside in addition to some interesting rides and games, restaurants and a wonderful beach to enjoy an involved holiday retreat with the whole family.
