How to say Happy New Year in Sanskrit

The near year is celebrated every year on the 1st of January according to the solar calendar–in India too, everybody celebrates this day as the new year day, though the lunar calendar is deep-rooted in the Indian psyche and many of our festivals fall on the dates determined by that only.

Like any phrase that is used to convey wishes or congratulations on an occasion in the English language can be used contextually in a number of ways in another language, saying Happy New Year in Sanskrit also can have multiple Sanskrit words or phrases.

The literal meaning might differ but the emotions and sentiments addressed in that phrase remain the same. However, the Sanskrit phrase that we are providing here is literally the same–Happy New Year! We are helped by our friend, Varalakshmi Kandregula, in getting the Sanskrit translation.
