Mass Choir by the Capital City Minstrels

Yesterday, I went to attend a Mass Choir by The Capital City Minstrels in Epicentre, Gurgaon. To start with the proceedings how I felt, I would say that it was worth visiting and I enjoyed the Mass and the music.

The hall was full of capacity and some people, like my friend Sukhchain and I, had to sit on staircases in the hall—this happened to be the first performance in Epicentre that I noticed so much of crowd. Otherwise, sometimes you feel that why the artist even performing. So, overall, it was heartening to see that so many people came to enjoy the music and program. Moreover, when you have a house-full, the atmosphere becomes quite likeable.

The program was conducted by Gabriella Boda-Rechner, who was born in Hungry and has around 25 years of experience in conducting choirs. To put it in adjectives, her performance was powerful and controlled.

The program included Nelson Mass (Missa in Angustiis), Mass for Peace (Ethno), Evening Song and the Twelve Songs of Christmas. The Soprano for Nelson Mass Sunanda Rao took me by surprise when she began the song—it was literally beautiful and her voice had a power. I could feel something inside me literally waving with her voice. I loved the songs in which she sang and it was sad to have her leave.

After sometime, the percussionist Suchet Malhotra came into play and added a lot of flavor to the whole evening. The pianist Svetlana Radashkevich and Suchet made a good music for the songs and they seemed sweeping the audience with dexterous colors—the musical prayers were so soothing that Sukhchain almost tried to meditate.

With the coming season of Christmas and New Year, it was a good experience to start the winter season and enjoy an evening in musical prayer. I literally am looking forward to some more programs in the same vein.
