Now asking this phrase is a confusing one because in India and in lots of other countries, asking for bathroom actually means asking for toilet. In fact, the original Hindi or regional words in India are not frequently used by the upper middle-class and upper-class gentry–the so-called education has made them use more sophisticated words.
Make sure you know what you are asking. Sometimes, while you actually want to go to toilet and somebody may point a separate bathroom to you, which does not have the seat or the pit.
