GS Auto International – Expansion Plans

GS Auto International one of the leading manufacturers of automotive suspension and fastening components, trailer axle and suspension parts is on expansion mode. The Company has embarked an expansion plan for a capex of Rs.30 crore (Rs.Thirty Crore) for establishing a new manufacturing unit at Adityapur Industrial Estate, Jamshedpur, for the manufacture of Auto components for Commercial & passenger vehicle segment. The Company had already acquired from Adityapur Industrial Development Authority, Jamshedpur. The required building for the said project is under construction and the Company is hopeful to commence the commercial production by December 2010.

With the Commencement of the Commercial production of this new unit, the Company planned to double its Casting Capacity from its present level.

With the setting of this new Manufacturing unit at Jamshedpur, the Company is also entering into Passenger vehicle auto component sector, which is showing a tremendous growth as compared to the commercial vehicle segment. As more & more automobiles manufacturing are entering in passenger car segment, there is ample growth opportunities for a reputed & trusted brand name like “GS”, which has presence in all the three verticals of Auto Component Industry.

This manufacturing unit will comprise state of the art technology for the manufacture of SGI casting as well as machined auto components with the use of latest world class manufacturing technology for the production of low cost and lower weight Auto Components for commercial & passenger vehicles.

Further the Company has embarked a major modernization cum automation programmed for its existing unit at Ludhiana with a total capex of Rs.10 crore, which is expected to be completed by June 2011.

With all the above said initiatives, the company is set to enter in the big orbit of Auto component Industry and further targeting a multifold increase in the turnover, by next three to four years.

GS Auto International has presence in all the three verticals of the Auto Component Industry viz. OEMs, After Sales Market and Overseas Market. Apart from vast dealer network of over 550 dealers throughout India, GS Auto has strong presence in the OE segment as well as overseas markets. Testimony to credentials are the Indian OE and Tier 1 customers viz. TATA Motors, Ashok Leyland, Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki Limited, Swaraj Mazda, Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles, Volvo India, Delphi Automotive Systems and Arvin Meritor, who have shown irredeemable faith in the product quality of GS.

In FY 2008-09 on YOY Basis Company improved its export performance by 103% and replacement market also grew by over 25 %, even in such a global turmoil year of 2008. Now company’s products are being directly exported to more than 37 countries. Recently GS has introduced specially designed machined and cast parts viz Bucket Tooth, Side Cutters, Wheel Studs, Heavy Duty Bush, UJ Cross and Various Pins for construction equipments like JCB, Tata Hitachi, Caterpillar and L&T Komatsu.

GS Auto has insatiable urge to develop perfect solution to meet customer requirement and always explore new horizons to achieve them. GS Auto’s product development and engineering teams has developed India’s first 14 stations with twin robotized arms transfer line to manufacture Spring Pins and King Pins.

After having conferred ISO-9002 certification in 1997 and QS-9000 certification in 1999 (re-certified in 2004) by BVQI, UK., the Company looked forward to take further leaps by implementation of 5S, TPM,TQM concepts i.e. Total Productive Maintenance/ Total Quality Management and Lean Manufacturing. The Management of GS Auto feels that these are the essential ingredients of success and sustenance in the present times, due to fierce competition offered by Global Companies. The quality movement in GS has achieved next milestone – TS 16949 accreditation in April 2005 recertified again in Feb 2008.

GS Auto was member of the first Cluster of 14 Indian Companies constituted under the Programme initiated jointly by ACT (ACMA Center of Technology) and CII (Confederation of Indian Industry). The Mission of this Program was to bring about improvement in the Production processes by way of concepts propagated and practiced by major Automotive Companies all over the world such as 5-S, JIT (TPS- Toyota production System), TPM and TQM.

Realizing the tangible benefits of these concepts such as cost-reduction, improved productivity, optimization of resources, better inventory-management and so on… GS Auto became the first Company from this region to have taken the initiative and started making efforts by implementing and practicing 5-S,TMP,TQM,TPS and team manufacturing concepts, with the involvement of all the workers and employees of GS. GS has now become mentor to many SME’s for making them understand benefits of low cost automation.

GS is developing wide range of parts for them, which will increase the Export turnover to manifold in the next three to four years.

GS has introduced after years of extensive research and trials heavy-duty high-speed trailer axle and suspension kits specially designed for Indian Roads and Unbalanced Payload Conditions. This axle is quite different than others available in India. This is made up of special grade Manganese Steel Seamless Tube welded with Solid Spindle.

Now, with full determination and enthusiasm GS Auto is moving forward and is already on a path to become a Global Company in the near Future.
