Solar powered racing cars could become a reality
Cambridge University students have demonstrated solar-powered cars which will cruise at 60 mph using the same power as a hairdryer. The car has been named as Bethany.
At present, the hope behind this car is really big and it is being touted as Britain’s brightest hope for the World Solar Challenge–a grueling 3,000 km race across the Australian Outback, and no wonder that the whole world would be keeping an eye on the development of this car.
If you are solar energy enthusiast and love to see cars running with gasoline, this is something for your taking. The solar power will come from solar energy captured by a 6 m² covering of high-efficiency silicon cells.
Anthony Law, manager of the student group Cambridge University Eco Racing (CUER), said: “At a time when the automotive industry is being forced to look at a low-carbon future, our vehicle demonstrates the enormous potential of energy-efficient electric vehicle technologies. Transportation currently accounts for about 35% of the UK’s energy use, so this is obviously an area in which we can have a big impact on climate change.”
I can easily see that the engineering communities around the globe are making headways in creating greener cars and we can easily anticipate some real solution in the coming few years.
